How We Started

The idea for CLAPAI began when Kynpiya and Emmanuel were affected as Emmanuel watched his friend die from AIDS, and not long after helped again with Kyenpiya’s uncle as he lay also dying. He left his two sons in our care as we were preparing to get married at the time. Pankyes is the main reason for CLAPAI but we had an urge to support the well being of children.
Emmanuel broke his leg and, while waiting for what was next, got an impression divinely to come home and work with Kenpiya on the project at hand. It took Kyenpiya almost eight months before she told Emmanuel that she had asked divinely as to what she could do for God, and not what God could do for her, after listening to a sermon by our pastor. God imprinted children on her heart, and it was something she told God she was not ready for.
In the end, Emmanuel volunteered his time to work at Evangel hospital with TEAM (The ECWA (Evangelical Church of West Africa) Aids Ministry), where he saw a large number of children and asked Kyenpiya that they raise funds to support the children–close to 800 of them he saw. It was at this point that Kyenpiya told Emmanuel the question he had been asking her for close on 8 months since his return from Dubai where he was playing professional football.
She quit her job with Econet the next day, and we started the registration process. We officially took off after a white charity ball we organized to raise extra funds with 7 kids sourced from a partnership arrangement with Faith Alive Hospital and it has grown from there.
Today CLAPAI orphanage boasts of 350 plus children in our care, directly and indirectly, another 1,280 children as we have done small grant research in partnership with IHVN (Institute of Human Virology Nigeria) Abuja, which has just ended. We are still accountable for these children.

Our First Staff

Kyenpiya, Emmanuel and her sister Nansat were the first staff at the center until Mama Jummai came on board along with Mama Grace, aka Mama Gee, our most senior and longest-serving staff and matron. She joined our staff body with two of her grandchildren in tow after she was abandoned by her family. Mama Gee takes care of the stomach region with the support of the two other matrons in our staff body presently. Mama Gee is a very excitable grand ma and has a lot of love for the children in our care.
The number has steadily grown and today the center boast of 350 children at the center who receive free education, clothing, psycho-social care as well as a home with feeding free and of no charge. CLAPAI has partnered with IHVN (INSTITUTE OF HUMAN VIROLOGY NIGERIA) who gave a small grant which catered for 350 plus children within 3 catchment areas in Plateau state.
Our target set goal was to support 1,800+ children whether orphans or vulnerable children within the 3 catchment areas namely, Bukuru Gyel, Dong Village after Wildlife park Jos and beyond Plateau state as well as across west Africa as we grow. We have exceeded this target and reached over 7,000 children within Plateau state.
